Inequality
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) reveals a worrying fact: only 5% of what a foreign tourist spends in a developing country goes to the local community. In other words, most of the money will go to large companies, such as airlines, travel agencies and chain hotels, often based in other countries.
A classic example is Trancoso-BA. A place with luxurious resorts that charge daily rates above R$2,000 and where more than 80% of GDP comes from tourism. Despite this, the vast majority of the population lives in poverty.
